Saturday 13th July 2019 – 3pm KO
After facing the Tigers from Hull last Saturday, the Robins will be facing the Tigers from Worksop this coming Saturday 13th July 2019, with the usual 3 pm kick-off. Worksop Town claim to be the world’s fourth oldest football club, being founded in 1861.
22nd December 2018.
That is the date that Worksop Town’s first team suffered their last league defeat (away at Bridlington Town), as they roared their way to a league, and cup double. Their season ended with a run of 22 (yes, twenty two!) consecutive victories.
Worksop Town won the premier league by eight clear points, were promoted, and so will start this season in the newly sponsored BetVictor Northern Premier, South East Division. (Used to be the Evo-Stik league).
They were no slouches on the goal scoring front, but seem to have built their success on the back of a solid defence, with only Maltby Main having a better defence in the Premier League. They only lost four league games all season.
It is also worth noting that they also attracted some huge crowds, by far and away the best in the league. Their home game against the team that finished second to them, Penistone Church, attracted a magnificent attendance of 1628, to watch a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
To conclude, what must have been a truly memorable season,Worksop Town defeated Liversedge 3-1 to win the League Cup, in front of 1075 at The Keepmoat Stadium Doncaster.
On the face of it Saturday’s opponents are well placed to make a big impression following their promotion. They have already taken revenge on Bridlington Town, in their first pre-season friendly, and on Tuesday evening entertained a team from the Sheffield Wednesday Academy, achieving a creditable 2-2 draw.
Worksop Town will clearly provide a serious test for The Robins so make sure that you are there to see how the team fares, and to support the lads against difficult opposition.
