This coming Saturday 12th January 2019, we are due to pay a visit to Skegness Town. It will be our longest league trip of the season, and probably is close to being our longest trip of the season, being about the same distance as our FA Cup trip to Kendall Town. This will be league test twenty three out of thirty-eight.
It probably will be a new ground for all Selby fans, as Skegness only moved into The Vertigo Stadium for last season, and of course this season is their first in our league for a long time.
So, apart from being likely to be the most previewed team by the Selby Town website, (the reason being two home league cup matches postponed), how has their first season panned out?
Well Skegness Town sit in fourteenth place, and we suspect that they will be reasonably pleased with that. They have twenty six points from their twenty three games played, and sit comfortably clear of the relegation zone.
There is no doubt that Skegness found the going tough at first, but they have worked to settle themselves into this league. They have brought in Nathan Collins from Grimsby Borough and a couple of new players and that seems to have broughtfurther improvements to their, already improving, results. The Lillywhites enjoyed a wonderful December, with a run of four wins only being brought to an end by a loss at Grimsby Borough, and that by the only goal of the game.
They have won their last four home games, and will be looking to get back to home comforts, after consecutivereverses away from home.
After doom and gloom in December, The Robins enjoyed their own home comforts last weekend. As we fast approach the nitty gritty end of the season, it is essential that Selby transfer that home form to away matches, especially as ten of their remaining sixteen league matches are away from The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.
You hear that the players and management appreciate the support that we fans give them, and it is essential that fans play their part in helping Selby to finish the season in style.
It is a long way, but it is a trip to the seaside, and Skegness air is famous for being bracing. Treat your family to a day out. The ground is next to a Pizza Hut so what more do you want? Do your best to be there, you know you will enjoy it.
Skegness play at The Vertigo Stadium Wainfleet Road Skegness.
