On Tuesday 25th February, the table topping Robins, hope to welcome Hallam to The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium for a 7.45 kick off. As ever, it will only happen if the weather allows. Hallam will certainly hope so, as they are suffering with postponements. They have actually played two games less than the Robins.
Those of you with a good memory, will remember that, we were originally due to entertain Hallam on Saturday 23rdNovember last year. November was a disastrous month for both clubs, as far as the league was concerned. The Robins didn’t get to play a league game, at all, in November. Hallam, at least, managed one league game, which they duly lost at Campion.
At the end of November, Hallam had amassed 20 points from their 13 league games, but had lost their last two matches. They were in tenth position in the league.
Fast forward to now, and Hallam have played another eight matches, and come to The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium on the back of winning their last two league fixtures. In fact, since that loss to Campion last November, Hallam have played theireight league games, and are unbeaten in all but one. They now have thirty five points from their twenty one games, and sit in ninth position in the table. They are actually 13 points from the fourth promotion spot occupied by North Ferriby, but have3 games in hand on them.
Hallam will have fancied a tilt at promotion at the start of the season, and will believe that a good run in their final 17 games, might well be enough to seal that, much desired, promotion. This makes Hallam a very dangerous proposition, a team that Selby has always found difficult, both at home, and away.
Hallam were the second best supported club in our league, after many seasons as the best. (Thanks to the “new team”,North Ferriby FC) But, with your help, we have just pushed Hallam out of that second best supported team slot. Selby Town would love to keep that superb level of support for the rest of the season.
Now that Selby Town are top of the league, the pressure is on to stay there. Town will only stay at the summit, if they keep accumulating points, which means they need your fantastic support more than ever. Make sure that you, and your friends, and family are there to give the team that bumper support. You know by now that entertainment, and value for money are guaranteed.
Speaking of bumper support, Saturday’s bring a tin contribution was amazing. Don’t forget, that we are also asking you to bring a tin, to support Selby’s local food bank,on Tuesday. Both Selby Town, and the foodbank, will be very grateful for your wonderful backing.
