West Riding County Cup – Quarter Final
Monday evening is round three of the West Riding County Cup. It sees the Robins welcome illustrious visitors from The Vanarama National League, FC Halifax Town, for a 7 .45 kick off, at The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.
Obviously this is weather permitting after the soaking that the pitch has had recently.
The Robins will be hoping the tie is a lucky omen, because they met, and beat, FC Halifax 4-2, on their run to the final of this competition last season. FC Halifax, certainly, won’t be caught by surprise this time.
We now know that the prize for the victors is a semi-final against Ossett Albion, at Ossett.
This match comes almost immediately after two important Saturday matches for the respective teams. Selby Town have had a very tough league encounter away at Dronfield Town. Unfortunately their hopes of extending their recent winning run were well and truly dashed.
FC Halifax, on the other hand, had one of their biggest games for a while, a second round proper FA Cup tie, against FC Wimbledon. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t have enough to topple their League One opponents, losing 1-3 at the Shay. The game was televised, so it will have been a great day financially for the club, despite the result. .
It remains to be seen what kind of a team FC Halifax put out. Last time out they visited our local rivals Goole Town with, what looked like a mixture of first team squad players, and under 19 players. As we know, following our epic tie against Huddersfield Town in the last round, under 19 players can be a real handful.
Against Goole, with seventy minutes gone, Halifax looked down and out, at two nil down. However, they were able to roar back with three goals in the next ten minutes. Goole managed to force penalties which saw Halifax progress 4-2.
Christian Fox hasn’t got the squad at his disposal for a wholesale rotation of personnel. Unfortunately the squad has been hit by injury, but he will play the best team he can, in the hope of progressing further.
He will be hoping that your support will help his team put in the monumental effort, that will be required for the second match in two days. Please make sure that you are there to cheer on the team.
It’s a cup game so all must pay, but the normal good value prices apply. (£5/ £3 concessions)
It is bound to be an epic night of cup football, so be there.
As ever I will see you there.
