NCEL Division One – 10th March 2020
On Tuesday 10th March we are due to visit Dronfield Town again, for our league match, kicking off at 7.45 pm. It is ”again” because The Robins visited The H E Barnes Stadium at the end of October last year for a League Cup, round three, tie.
Those who were there, will remember Town taking the lead twice, but an erratic refereeing performance reducing Selby to ten men, and disallowing two Town goals, severely dented The Robin’s hopes of a victory. The Robins were unable to hold out, conceding a late second goal, before losing 3-0 on penalties.
It is “again” because we were due to visit Dronfield on 16thNovember last year, but the weather intervened. Dronfield had just won 0-2 at Winterton Rangers, so will have been verykeen to reinforce their League Cup win, with another victory over the Robins.
Dronfield have been on the march recently, and will be confident, going into the game with Selby on the back of a six game unbeaten run, five of them victories. Their last home game saw 5-0 demolition of the hapless East Hull. This excellent run, has seen them amass 35 points from their twenty five games, leaving them in eleventh position in the league.
Hosting Selby Town is the start of some tricky fixtures for Dronfield, with a visit to Campion, followed by the hosting of North Ferriby, Winterton, and Knaresborough(League Cup round 4), then a visit to meet North Ferriby again.
To say that is a difficult run of fixtures is an understatement.
The Robins must get over the disappointment of Saturday’s result very quickly, and return to winning ways. They have always found the trip to The H E Barnes Stadium to be a tough one and will need to be on top form to come away with anything from the game.
It goes without saying that your support is vital. It only takes an hour and a quarter according to the AA, and is just over fifty miles away, so please make the effort to be there to get behind the team.
