NCEL Division One – 29th February 2020
Saturday 29th February (yes it’s a leap year!), sees the Robins travel to Bradford for a hugely significant game against Campion. Hopefully the weather will not intervene. The normal 3pm kick off will apply.
Last weekend Campion defeated Winterton Rangers at Winterton, to knock them off the top of the table. This Saturday, Campion will be looking to do likewise to Selby Town.
Whilst Town would absolutely love to win the league, their primary objective is to achieve promotion to The Premier League. A win against Campion on Saturday could be a milestone event, in that quest for elevation into the top league.
Going into the game Selby are top of the table, on goal difference, with 53 points from their 23 games. Campion are in fifth place, just outside the promotion places, but, very much, in the thick of the promotion race. Having played the same number of games, Campion are just eight points below Selby in the league. After Saturday will that gap have narrowed to five points, or widened to eleven?
A massive game for each club, and they each have every incentive to win. In fact, our other close rivals will be torn between which of the teams they want to win, and probably would prefer a draw.
Campion have the second best attack in the league, and couple this with a defence that is slightly better than Selby can claim. They are a formidable proposition at home having lost onlythe one, and drawn one, of their ten home league games. They have won their last two games.
Town fans will remember that, almost exactly a year ago, The Robins suffered a 5-1 drubbing at Campion, despite taking an early lead. Earlier this season, Selby were always up against it, in the game at The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium, and despite coming from behind twice, lost the game 2-3.
A huge performance is needed by the Robin’s, and they will need every bit of support that they can muster. If your appetite is not whetted by the prospect of a fixture like this, then it is hard to imagine what kind of match will generate excitement for you. Please make every effort to be there. Bring your friends, and family. Your team needs your support for a pivotal match.
Campion play at The Kay & Lane Insurance Stadium @ Manningham Mills Sports and Communities Association. Scotchman Road Bradford. That SAT-NAV code is BD9 5AT.
According to the AA, it will take you about an hour to travel the forty miles to the stadium.
It’s such a huge game, why would you not want to be there?
