Preview: Selby Town vs Armthorpe Welfare

March 12, 2020

NCEL Division One – 14th March 2020 As the games come ever thicker, and faster, Saturday 14thMarch 2020 sees The Robins at The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium once again, for a 3 pm kick off, against our near rivals, Armthorpe Welfare. As ever, the match will take place, weather permitting.  The season is certainly building to a crescendo, but surprisingly, this will be Town’s last home game for almost a month, and weather permitting again, The Robins are scheduled to play six tough away games, before they welcome Hallam to The Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium on April 4th. By then Selby should have only three away games remaining.  The Welfare are one of those teams sitting comfortably in mid table. After Wednesday’s game they have 34 points from their 28 games played, and they sit in twelth place in the league. Not threatening promotion,

Preview: Dronfield Town vs Selby Town

March 9, 2020

NCEL Division One – 10th March 2020 On Tuesday 10th March we are due to visit Dronfield Town again, for our league match, kicking off at 7.45 pm. It is ”again” because The Robins visited The H E Barnes Stadium at the end of October last year for a League Cup, round three, tie.  Those who were there, will remember Town taking the lead twice, but an erratic refereeing performance reducing Selby to ten men, and disallowing two Town goals, severely dented The Robin’s hopes of a victory. The Robins were unable to hold out, conceding a late second goal, before losing 3-0 on penalties.  It is “again” because we were due to visit Dronfield on 16thNovember last year, but the weather intervened. Dronfield had just won 0-2 at Winterton Rangers, so will

Preview: Selby Town vs Rossington Main

March 1, 2020

NCEL Division One – 3rd March 2020 Those dreaded words “weather permitting” are in play again, as we prepare to welcome Rossington Main to the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium, on Tuesday 3rd March 2020. The kick-off is at 7.45.  Will we ever get a dry spell so the whole League can dry out? Fingers crossed that our pitch will be playable, ahead of twoscheduled home games in a week.  The original home fixture against Rossington Main fell foul of the weather in early November last year; as did so many games. At that point The Main had played twelve league matches for eleven points and they were sitting in seventeenth place. They hadn’t won in their last six matches, but were actually unbeaten in four of them.  Fast forward

Preview: Campion vs Selby Town

February 26, 2020

NCEL Division One – 29th February 2020 Saturday 29th February (yes it’s a leap year!), sees the Robins travel to Bradford for a hugely significant game against Campion. Hopefully the weather will not intervene. The normal 3pm kick off will apply. Last weekend Campion defeated Winterton Rangers at Winterton, to knock them off the top of the table. This Saturday, Campion will be looking to do likewise to Selby Town.  Whilst Town would absolutely love to win the league, their primary objective is to achieve promotion to The Premier League. A win against Campion on Saturday could be a milestone event, in that quest for elevation into the top league. Going into the game Selby are top of the table, on goal difference, with 53 points from their 23 games. Campion are
